Participation of AgriScienceGEO at InsectFeedAroma Research Programme
29 Oct 2020 - today
AgriScienceGEO participates as a research associate in the research project InsectFeedAroma entitled "Innovative feed with insect flour, which will be grown on a substrate enriched with functional ingredients of aromatic and medicinal plants of the Greek flora, for farmed bream-fish, poultry and pigs. The research program is funded under the Action "RESEARCH - CREATE - INNOVATE" (NSRF 2014-2020) of the operational program EPANEK 2014-2020. Other institutions and organizations that participate in the current project are the University of Ioannina (Department of Agriculture), the Hellenic Agricultural Organization "DIMITRA", the Institute of Genetic Improvement and Phytogenetic Resources (General Directorate of Agricultural Research), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Department of Veterinary Medicine), the University of Thessaly (Department of Agriculture), a private animal-feed company and a private fish-farming company. As part of this research project, AgriScience has undertaken the rearing of insects, such as Tenebrio molitor on substrates enriched with plant residuals for the purpose of producing insect flour, which will then be used as an ingredient in experimental feed mixtures. February marked the end of half of the research project in which sufficient quantities of Tenebrio molitor larvae were successfully produced for use in experimental animal and fish diets.
